Describe an article on health you read in a magazine or on the Internet

You should say:

• What it was about
• Where you read it
• Why you read it
• And how you felt about it

“Health”

1. Physical health

2. Mental health

The dangers of eating too much sugar/ The consequences of not eating breakfast/ The effects of eating too much junk food/ The risks of drinking too much Coco-Cola etc.

The results of sleep deprivation/ The harm caused by too much screen time etc.

The risks caused by excessive running / The dangers of a sedentary lifestyle/ The problems with excessive exercise etc.

The threat of obesity etc.

The worry of depression/ The concerns over mood changes etc.

The benefits of eating little and often/ The benefits of eating fruits/ The benefits of having breakfast/ The benefits of drinking 8 cups of water a day etc.

The benefits of going to bed early/ The benefits of getting up early/ The benefits of reducing screen time (phone, laptop etc)

The benefits of running / The benefits of doing exercise/ The benefits of yoga etc.

The things you should do to prevent injuries while running etc.

The things you can do to prevent stomachache/ The things you can do to prevent obesity/ the things you should do to prevent catching a virus (The flu, coronavirus etc)

The things you can do to reduce your blood pressure etc.

How to eat healthily/ how to lose weight/ How to have a balanced diet etc.

How to change your lifestyle / how to improve your quality of sleep etc.

How to exercise carefully or sensibly/ how to lose weight etc.

How to improve your eyesight etc.

How to reduce your blood pressure/ How to keep a healthy mind etc.

When is the best time to drink water etc.

When is the best time to go to sleep/ when is the best time to get up etc.

When is the best time to do exercise etc.

The health article I read is about Autism (自闭症)….

01

What it was about

Example one:Author

I would like to talk about an article I read about meditation 冥想. Not many people in China have heard about it. The article was written by an unknown author, but he said he works for Alibaba.

Example two:When+Length+Version

Three months ago, on a laid-back 悠闲的 Sunday afternoon, I read an article about mental health and it mainly focused on how to reduce stress. The article was a bit long, about 2000 words. As it was in English, there were many words I didn’t know. It took me about 20 mins to finish it.

Example three:Popularity

The health article that comes to mind was about how to lose weight effectively and safely. The article was very popular and went viral over night Many of my friends read it too.

Example four:Author+Price

I am going to talk about an article about depression I read online. The article was written by a woman called Letitia, a psychology graduate from Harvard University. She has published many articles in medical journals over the past few years. Most of her articles online are free. However, occasionally some of them have a small fee. I had to pay for this one, but I think it was worth it, as it was full of interesting and useful information.

02

Where you read it

Example one:

I found the article in a magazine called Health. It is my mum’s favorite and she buys it every week without fail To be honest, I wasn't really interest in the magazine until last summer holiday. I was bored and my parents were out, so I started to read it.

Example two:

I read it on a famous website called Zhihu, a Quora-like app. Lots of professional people like posting their articles and ideas there. Because of this, I am a big fan of it and when I get bored, I like finding some interesting articles.

Example three:

I found it on an app called Get. The app attracts lots of professional people from different fields who share their ideas and advice. Unfortunately, you need to pay for most of the articles. This one cost me 5 yuan, but I think it is worth it.

2. How you know about it

我们也可以把这个问题变换成“How you know about it”。

Example  :

Actually one of my friends recommended it to me and told me I should read it. She thought I would find it interesting, so I searched for it online both in English and Chinese and read them carefully. From the number of views, I could tell it was very popular.

03

Why you read it

Example:

I read it because I wanted to get some ideas which could help my students relax and unwind 放松. My students were about to take the University Entrance Examination and they were all feeling anxious.

Example one:Headline

I was just flicking through 翻阅 the magazine, mostly, just looking at the pictures, when I saw the article about mediation. It caught my attention, because the headline was about great businessmen who practiced meditation, including Jack Ma, the founder of Alibaba and the late Steve Jobs.

Example two:Author

The reason why I read it was I was attracted by the author who is a famous doctor in my country and during the coronavirus outbreak 疫情爆发, he made a great contribution to our nation. Because of this, I think all of his articles are worth reading.

Example three:Popularity

The reason why I read it was it was because it had been viewed over 1 million times. According to the reviews, most of the people thought the article was meaningful and worth reading. Because of this, I read it during my break.

04

How you felt about it

  1. Positive

Example one:About meditation

It was a long article and took me about 10 mins to read. I found it fascinating. The author listed all the benefits of meditating.

He explained that in this day and age 当代, life can be crazy. People work long hours, eat badly and don’t get enough time to decompress 减压. Many people are in danger of being overwhelmed and getting stressed out.

Meditation can help alleviate 缓解 this. He said you can do mediation anywhere. He has started incorporating mediation into his work place. He asked his team members to mediate at least 20 mins after lunch. To be honest, after reading the article, I try to meditate every morning.

Example two:About how to reduce stress

I think the article really broadened my horizons and I learned some useful tips to help my students.

For example, I began to talk with my students one at a time, so I could understand their individual needs. I also encouraged them to get fresh air and exercise instead of justhaving their noses in their books 埋头苦学 all the time. When it came to the exam, my students were not stressed and went on to pass with flying colors . I was so pleased I had read the article and plan to read more articles from this author to help more students succeed in the future.

Example two:About staying up late

The article was a real eye opener 大开眼界 and it completely changed my attitude towards staying up late.

In the past, I thought I was young and staying up late would not cause me too much harm. However, I was completely wrong. It explained that staying up late can contribute to weight gain and it can put pressure on your organs.

The author said each organ has to rest and they have a certain time for this. For example, the liver needs to rest from 11 pm and the lungs from 3 am. Getting a good nights sleep can keep us healthy and keep diseases at bay

2. Negative

Example:About coronavirus

After reading the whole article, I thought it was dull and boring. I was also a bit angry about the author’s lack of responsibility.

He listed many ways to prevent the Coronavirus but his suggestions had not been tried or tested.  For example, he said that eating 6 eggs a day would keep it away. What’s worse, is that some ignorant 无知的 people listened and followed his advice. Because of this, I made a complaint to WeChat and suggested they delete the article. Luckily they took it down and the author was banned from adding any more articles.
