Part 2

A time when I got into contact with an old friend happened last weekend. Cathy was my roommate in college and she worked in another city which is around 3 hours’ drive from Shanghai after graduation. We have not met for around two years. Last Friday, she took a business trip to my city and we finally got the chance to hang out together. As for where we met, we spent the whole afternoon in a café near Jinan Temple. The café is in the garden of a historical building of over 100 years. It’s quite magic because we could get away from all the noise and find peace within this crowded city. We did some catchup with each other. She told me that she was thinking about job hopping or pursing a master degree. I expressed my support towards her because she was the kind of person who always knew what should do and should not do. Besides, we discussed how to make dishes and cookies because recently I got hooked on them. The topics were different from the ones we talked about in undergraduate days but I still enjoyed being with her.

Regarding my feelings about this meeting, I really enjoyed the afternoon tea time with my old friend. I’m determined to communicate with Cathy frequently through social media and try my best to maintain our friendship.

Part 3

1  Will friendship change with age?
Yes, definitely. When we are in high school and college, it’s easier to have good friends because we are surrounded by groups of people with similar interests. But as we get older, we tend to prioritize the type of individuals we want around us, which is totally different from the simple friendship in school.
2  Do you think old friend is more important to young people or old people?
Well, I suppose there won’t be any clear cut answers for this question. Old friend is important to everyone because hanging out with them is convenient and comfortable and we are already familiar with each other. Besides, old friends tend to be more trustworthy because after a long period of observation, we are assured of their personality and credit. So I feel that the importance has nothing to do with the age.
3  How to make friends?
There are various ways to make friends. To begin with, if you want to make friends, you need to put yourself out there somehow in order to meet people. If you just stay at home and sit alone, friends are not likely to come to you. This can be achieved by joining certain organizations or clubs to find someone with common interests.
4  Will people change their ways of making friends after graduation?
Yes, definitely. When people make friends in school, they tend to hang out with those of common interests. And there are various channels and platforms to form a new friend circle. But after graduation, the only social setting might be the workplace because almost everyone is occupied by heavy workloads day and night.
