2019-01-23Describe a beautiful city that you havevisited
You should say:
Where the city is
When you went there
Why you went there
And explain why it is beautiful
I'd like to talk about Hangzhou which is acity I have visited couple of weeks ago.
Hangzhou is a beautiful city located inZhejiang province, the southern China. It is so picturesque that we Chinesepeople call it the paradise. Last year China hold G20 in Hangzhou because thegovernment thought it can show how gorgeous China is to the whole world. Thereare also many famous people in history used to live there.
I went there with my parents during thesummer holiday. Hangzhou is the first place where my parents travelled to aftertheir marriage, so they also wanted to pay a visit there to see how it hasdeveloped.
We stayed there for 3 days. On the firstday, we went to Lingying temple. My family believes in buddhism so we wentthere and prayed sincerely. Next day, we visited the west lake, where we couldrow or just sat at the river bank, enjoying the stunning view. On the last day,we went to the former home of Su Shi who is a well-known poet and artist inChina in Song dynasty. I am a big fan of him as his poets convert positive lifeattitudes such as never give up, always be optimistic to us.
Well as for why Hangzhou is beautiful, it isbecause of those picturesque scenic spots. The river and mountains are allgreat. Besides, lots of plants are planted in Hangzhou, making it a green city.It left a very good impression on me, so I decided to travel there again nextwinter holiday.
Part 3
1. What’s the different between big cities andsmall cities? Why?
Well, definitely there are more peopleliving in big cities than in small cities, because there is more space forhousing. There are more job opportunities in big cities as generally peopletend to invest and run their business in big cities. There are also more carsand public transportation in big cities as people need them to commute. However, the air quality is better in small cities as fewer people means lesspollution and energy consumption. It is also more quiet in small cities for thesame reason.
2. Doyou like historical cities? Why?
Yes, I do. I am a big fan of history. Ithink it is really interesting to know what happened in the past and how thesociety has changed and developed from thousands of years ago. Well, inhistorical cities, usually there are many ancient relics. When visiting thoseplaces, you may have a feeling that you have gone to hundreds or thousands ofyears ago. This kind of feeling is fantastic and beyond description. You canalso visit former homes of historic people in those historical cities.
3. Howto protect historical cities? Why?
Well, in historical cities, manyarchitecture has a history of more than 500 years. In this case, it isimportant to check the situation of those buildings every year and make somemaintenance, so that those buildings will not collapse. In addition, it is alsoessential to raise people’s awareness to protect the relics. The governmentshould shoot several public-service advertisements to tell citizens andtourists the importance of those historical buildings, so that they will not dosome dangerous things while visiting, such as smoking.
4. Whydo people like to visit historical place?
Because when visiting those places, you mayhave a feeling that you have gone to hundreds or thousands of years ago. Thiskind of feeling is fantastic and beyond description. It is really great to seewhat you have learned and the illustrations on the history books stand right infront of you. Also, you may feel moved as people who lived or worked in thoseplaces all have died but time and the historical architecture witness changesand development of the society.
5. What’sthe problem of maintaining historical places? Why?
First, we need lots of professional workersto design the plan and carry out the whole process. However, it seems thatfewer people are interested in maintaining historical places, so it may be hardto recruit people. In addition, lots of money is needed. Generally speaking, itis the government who is responsible with offering the money, so this projectmay cause financial burden on the government.
6. Whydo people go to modern city?
Because people prefer to invest and runtheir business in modern cities. In this case, there are more jobopportunities, so people would like to go to modern cities to get a better job.In addition, life is more convenient. Technology is more advanced in moderncities so the infrastructure is better. For example, there are greaterequipment in hospitals and routes of public transportation are better designed. Therefore, living standard can be improved for people who live in moderncities.
7. Peopleoften says cities are look like the same nowadays, what do you think aboutthat?
Well I think this is quite understandablebecause of the globalization. Nowadays, in a construction company, you canalways see engineers and designers from different countries. Therefore, buildings constructed involves multicultural elements. I guess this is whycities look like the same. However, I don’t think this is a good trend. In myopinion, every city should have its own characteristic. There should be somelandscapes for each city so that it can be distinguished from others. Touristsmay also feel bored when they see the city they travel to is similar to theirhometown as the meaning of traveling is to discover and the experiencedifferent things.
