2019-01-23Describea skill that you need long time to learn
Youshould say:
What itis
How you wouldlearn it
Where youcan learn it
Andexplain why you need long time to learn
I’d like to talk about figure skating whichreally costs you lots of time to learn.
Figure skating involves jumps, spin anddancing while skating on ice with background music. Specifically, here jumpsinvolve the skater leaping into the air and rotating rapidly to land, which isvery difficult.
I started to be interested in figureskating after watching a competition when I was about 7 years old. I wasattracted by the performance and those stunning actions so I told my parentsthat I also wanted to learn figure skating and they agreed.
I learned it in an ice rink which is aslarge as a playground. My coach was a patient and elegant lady. She guided mecarefully and encouraged me a lot.
Now let me explain why this activity takeslots of time to grasp. As a beginner, you have to first learn how to skate. Iremember I could hardly stand firmly on the ice at the initial stage and I keptfalling down. Then, you have to learn how to turn around, stop and skatebackward at a high speed. It took me about 2 years to manage to do so. Afterthat, you have to practice a lot to learn how to jump and spin. Lastly, youhave to fit each of your action exactly into the rhythm of background music, which is the most difficult. Otherwise, it is impossible for you to show thebeauty of figure skating. Therefore, there were also lots of dancing and balletpractice. I still practice a lot now. I hope one day I can succeed in combiningstrong technique with mature and versatile artistry in figure skating.
Part 3
1. Exception what you mentioned before, do youhave any other skill that take you long time to learn? Why?
I spent more than 5 years to learn to playthe guitar. I am a big fan of Taylor Swift, who always plays the guitar as herbackground music during her concerts. Therefore, I also want to be a guitarplayer. At first, I spent lots of time to understand all the symbols of musicnotation. Then, it also cost lots of time to memory the key of each string.Lastly, came the practice. It was quite hard as you have to use both of yourhands to play it so flexibility is important. In addition, the strings are hardand you will feel hurt after pressing them for a long period of time. Butanyway, I succeeded at last. I am now a master of guitar.
2. Why people want to take long time to learnskills?
I guess it is because they really needthose skills. For example, university students who live in dorms have to learnhow to take care of themselves, including how to do different housework and howto cook. Adults have to learn how to drive or ride a bicycle if there is nosuitable public transportation for them to commute. Besides, maybe it is alsobecause they are interested in those skills. Take painters as an example, theyare willing to spend most of time learning how to draw and select colors.
3. Are you happy after learning? Why?
It depends on what I have learned. If Ihave had a class that I do not like, such as politics and Chinese, I will feelextremely tired and sleepy. Having to learn something that you are notinterested in at all is kind of torturing. However, if I have just learnedsomething that I am fond of, I will feel excited. Because I get to know moreabout this field, which gives me a sense of satisfaction and achievement. Iwill also communicate with my classmates to get further understanding.
4. Do you think we should be patient withlearning? Why?
Yes, I do. In my opinion, through theprocess of learning, there must be lots of trouble and things difficult to you.In this case, we should be patient instead of giving up immediately. We shouldcalm down and then search on the internet or ask teachers and classmates forhelp. Even when learning something you are good at, patience is also needed. Some people may be over-confident thus missing something important.
5. Why talented athletes still need long timeto training?
Because they have to remain at their beststate. Unlike other activities, you need to keep your body shape and exerciseyour muscles everyday to achieve great performance in sports. In this case, trainings are necessary. In addition, athletes have to practice a lot so thatthey can respond more quickly, find their weakness and improve theirtechniques. Also many athletes find themselves no longer good at the sportafter they grow from teenagers to adults. In order to avoid such situation, they have no choice but to exercise frequently to ensure that they can alwaysperform well.
6. Can you describe some work that needpatient with others? Why?
Well I think lots of jobs require patience.Doctors should be very patient. They have to listen to the patients carefullyand ask several questions to have a clear idea about their situation. Onlyafter this can they know the disease that those patients have contracted andprescribe appropriate medicine. Nurses should also be patient. They need tocheck the information of each patient to make sure that patients are havingright medicine and they are not allergic to the medicine. During the operation, nurses should also be patient enough to listen to doctors’ orders so that theycan make preparation efficiently. Actually I believe one can not succeedwithout patience.
7. Do you think elder people are more patientthan teenagers? Why?
In my opinion, whether a person is patientor not depends on his or her personality but not the age. Some people are bornto be patient, they are willing to spend more time on the same thing and makesure that everything works in the right way. However, there are also somepeople who are aggressive and rash. They hope that everything can be finishedat a high speed and they tend to deal with everything with a fast pace. Maybesome people will change their characteristic as they grow up and learn lessonsbecause of their impetuosity, but personality is hard to change after all. Itis like something carve in your bone.
