I’d like to talk about the experience thatAgnes lent me her notes.

Agnes is my roommate. She comes from Wuxi, which is located in the South of China. She has a broad knowledge, so wheneverI get into troubles, I would turn to her for advise and help. She is also goodat study, winning scholarship every year.

Well, it happened last semester. I had astomachache and the doctor told me to stay in until I recovered. In this case,I was absent from school for about 2 weeks. The day I returned to university,my calculus teacher said that there would be a test next week. To make thematter worse, she said that this test would be very difficult. I feltdisappointing on hearing her words because she had taught lots of things duringthe 2 weeks that I was absent. It was also impossible for me to finish thehomework she assigned.

In the evening, when I came back to thedorm, I found that Agnes’s notebook was on my desk. “This is my notebook, andit can be of great help for you to teach yourself. You can ask me for help ifthere is something you can not understand.” She said to me.

I felted extremely moved and grateful aboutthis notebook. With it, it was far easier to understand those complicatedprinciples. I also got to know how to apply those formulas and principlesbecause she noted down lots of sample questions carefully. In the end Iachieved 90 out of 100 in the test, which made both of us happy. It is so luckyfor me to have such a nice roommate.

Part 3

1.   What kind of stuff do teenagers like tobuy? Why?

It depends on the gender. Boys like to buygames. You know most of the boys are addicted to games, in which they can besuper heroes fighting against monsters and saving people; or they can cooperatewith each other to discover treasure in mazes. Games are exciting and amazingthus appealing to boys. Well, as for girls, as they grow up to 15 or 16 yearsold, they start to pay attention to their appearance. They hope that they canalways be pretty and popular, so they would like to buy fashionable clothes, accessories and make-ups.

2.   Why young people like to buy somethinguseless? And how do we solve this problem?

Well, in my opinion, this is because youngpeople are less steady. They tend to make rash decisions and usually they failto think of a thing completely. For example, young ladies may buy the latestfoundation of Dior without any hesitation after watching the advertisement. However, later they may find out that the foundation does not suit their skinat all, then the make-up become a waste of money. In addition the paymentmethod also causes such phenomenon. Nowadays, young people tend to pay bycredit cards rather than cash. In this case, they do not have an actual feelingthat they have spent lots of money. In order to solve this problem, I think weshould encourage young people to search for information before buying something, such as the comments. Recording each transaction and how much money has beenspent is also helpful.

3.   What parents would do if their childrenwant something they don't have?

It depends on what kind of things do thosechildren want. If they want something that is beneficial to their study orgrowth and affordable, parents should give them money. For example, if theywant to buy books, milk, stationary, parents should meet their needs. However,if they want to buy something that may interfere with their study or be harmfulto their health, such as games, junk food and so on, parents should refusethem. At the same time, they should tell their children disadvantages of thingsthey want.

4.   Do you think consumption is important to acountry? why?

Yes, the government of China encouragespeople to spend. According to what I have learned in macro economics, it is theinterest rate that tells you whether a country wants its citizens to save moneyor to spend. This is because if the interest rate is high, many people willchoose to put money in the bank in order to get the interest. If the interestrate is low, it will be no longer meaningful to save money, so people willprefer to spend them. Well, in China, the interest rate is extremely low, whichis only 1.5%, so the government wants us to spend more and invest more.

5.   Do government encourage people to spend moneyin China? Why?

Yes, I will. I guess this is because it ishard for me to make decisions. For example, I can not decide which color to buy, which size to buy and so on. In this case, I would like to ask others foradvice. Usually I will turn to shop assistants hoping to get somerecommendation. In addition, when shopping online, I’d like to buy things whichare the best sellers. I believe the more people the product is bought by, thebetter it is. Maybe this is not rational, but I am one of those people who areeasy to get influenced by others.
