You should say:

who played animportant role in this period of time;
and explain whyyou are interested in this period of time.
I’d like to talkabout the Tang Dynasty, which is generally regarded as a high point in Chinesecivilization, and a golden age of cosmopolitan culture. The Tang Dynastycontinued for roughly 289 years, from 618, when the dynasty was founded, to907. Chinese culture flourished and further matured during the Tang era. And itis considered the greatest age for Chinese poetry. There was a rich variety ofhistorical literature compiled by scholars. In the first half of the dynasty’srule, Buddhism became a major influence in Chinese culture, with large numberof Buddhist temples built during this period. Known as the Emperor Gaozu ofTang, Li Yuan seized power during the decline and collapse of the Sui Empire,and founded the Tang Dynasty. During the region of him, the Tang dynastyreopened the Silk Road to the West, gaining many new technologies, culturalpractices, rare luxury, and contemporary items. From my perspective, China wasone of the most powerful countries during the Tang Dynasty. Chinese culture blossomedin literature, arts and philosophy, and
was widelyspread around the world.
