I’d like to talk about Hanyu Yuzuru whois a a Japanese figure skater competing in the men's singles discipline. He isa two-time Olympic champion and a two-time World champion. What’s more, he hasbroken world records twelve times, and currently holds the world records forthe highest score. That’s why he is regarded as one of the most outstandingfigure skaters.

Well I also learned to skate when I wasabout 10 years old so I am a big fan of skating. I watched his competition andwas deeply impressed by his gorgeous performance. At that time, he was just ajuvenile but he managed to make the most difficult jumps and spins. As aresult, I was attracted by him immediately and started to pay attention to him.

Figure skating involves jumps, spin anddancing while skating on ice with background music. Specifically, here jumpsinvolve the skater leaping into the air and rotating rapidly to land, which isvery difficult. Hanyu is good at each aspect with incredible flexibility.

Now let me tell you why I think he ishandsome. First and most obviously, it is because his face and appearance arecharming. I bet you will also be attracted by him as soon as you see photos ofhim. In addition, he is even more handsome when performing figure skating. Hesucceeds in combining strong technique with mature and versatile artistry. 1.     Do you think it’s important for a person tohave good looks?

No, I don’t. Of course a good appearancemay help you to leave a good first impression on others. However, as a sayinggoes, we should not judge a book by its cover. It is the character that reallymatters. For example, if you are not kind or honest, no matter how beautiful orhandsome you are, nobody will be willing to be your friend in the long run. Inthis case, I think it is more important for us to be a person with virtue andgood manners.

2.     What can you do to be more beautiful byyourself?

First of all, we can make ourselves moregood-looking by making up. Cosmetic products such as foundation, concealer andmascara can help us to conceal certain flaws on our face while make our facialfeatures look better. For example, your eyes will look bigger with eyeshadowand mascara. However, such method may be embarrassing for men. I believe beingconfident is the best way to be more beautiful. When you are full ofself-confidence, you will be totally different and shiny.

3.     How do we dress better?

In my opinion, clothes a person wears canreflect his or her taste of fashion to some extent. Therefore, if we can dressbetter it is sure that we can leave a better impression on others. First, weshould choose right clothes style that really fits us. For example, for girlswho are not tall, it is better to wear skirts and high heels rather thantrousers and sneakers. In this way, we can conceal the flaws of our body shape.In addition, it is also essential to always wear proper clothes in differentsituations. For instance, if you are going to attend an interview, it is betterto wear suits to show respect. Lastly, whether the clothes is comfortableshould also be taken into consideration. If you are wearing a sweater thatmakes you feel itchy, it is certain that you will not be in a good mood all theday.

4.     Do some stores recruit/hire good looks person?Why they do that?

Yes, they do. Stores where clothes,cosmetics and luxury products are sold prefer to recruit employees with goodappearance. Actually I’m not quite sure about the reason, but I guess it isbecause for customers, shop assistants and staff of a certain brand  are connected with the image of the brand.For example, when shopping in a clothes shop, you may regard the clothes as outof fashion if the shop assistants are not good-looking or even ugly. Inaddition, good appearance of employees can help customers to have a better moodwhile shopping. In this case, many shops give priority to beautiful or handsomepeople during recruitment.

5.     Do you think good looks is an importantcriterion for company recruitment?

Well, I think for certain jobs,appearance is a key criterion. Especially for people who work for serviceindustry such as stewardesses. Good appearance can create a sense of kindness,which makes consumers more satisfied while being served. Meanwhile, for actorsand actresses, the more charming they are, the more fans they can attract.However, for other jobs, I think capability is more important as beautifulfaces have nothing to do with one’s ability. Therefore many companies askapplicants to do exercises so that their ability of solving problems andcollecting information can be tested.

6.     Do you think good looks can improve sales?

Well I think it depends. Some customerstend to be attracted by beautiful packing. Even though the price may be moreexpensive than the same product but with normal packing, they are willing topay more. However, there are also lots of people who only care about thingsinside packing. After all what you really need is the good inside rather thanthe outside package. On the other hand, I admit that when purchasing somethingas a present for others, it is better to choose the one with decent packing.Therefore, whether good looks equal to better sales depends on specificsituation.

7.     Which is more important, your inner beautyor your  outer beauty?

I believe inner beauty is always the mostimportant. Of course a good appearance may help you to leave a good firstimpression on others. However, as a saying goes, we should not judge a book byits cover. It is the character that really matters. For example, if you are notkind or honest, no matter how beautiful or handsome you are, nobody will bewilling to be your friend in the long run. In this case, I think it is moreimportant for us to be a person with virtue and good manners.

8.     If you want to describe a beautifulplace/scene, would it be better to use pictures or words?

For me, I would use pictures. To behonest, I do not belong to those people who are good at expressing their ideasand thoughts. I don’t have the confidence that I can use language to describethe scenery accurately. Chances are that others may regard the place as normaldue to my poor expression. Therefore, it is more sensible to show picturesdirectly. However, there are also lots of people through whose language theplace being described become more picturesque. You can imagine the charmingscenery with their poetic words and I really hope one day I can also do so.
