Task 1
Do you prefer to travel to a new place or the same place you have been to before?
Personally speaking, I prefer to travel to a place I have never been to before. I'm kind of an explorer. I like to try new things. Traveling to a new place is a kind of adventure. I will see new things, new people and enjoy beautiful scenery I have never seen before, which is really exciting.
Besides, traveling to a new place can broaden my horizons. During the whole process, I can learn about local culture and customs. By communicating with local people, I can fully immerse myself in this atmosphere and have some real-life experience.

The writer and the speaker have a debate on whether the extinct ivory-billed woodpecker. The writer points out that Ivory billed woodpeckers were thought to be extinct decades ago, but recently they have been found still alive, and there are photos and sound recordings to prove it.
First, the writer claims that they are very similar, and the distinguished features of these two kinds of birds cannot be seen from the photo. However, the speaker views this issue from an opposite angle. Although the photos can't show all the features, the researcher is professional enough to judge whether the object is Ivory billed woodpeckers.
Secondly, the passage states that as Scientists did not find the nest of ivory billed woodpeckers, there is no evidence. However, the speaker casts doubt on this opinion by saying that this kind of bird has a low population of density, and its nests are often separated by 25 square kilometers, so it doesn't mean much that there is no nest in the big forest.
Last, the writer argues that the recorded sound records may be the calls of other birds, or even the sounds of gunshot. By contrast, in accordance with the speaker, this claim does not hold water. The habitat is not suitable for gunshots, and no hunter has reported the existence of gunshots before, so the sound may be emitted by ivory billed woodpeckers.

When it comes to the contributing factors that lead to the successful development of a country, there are many areas including agriculture, industry, political, and education. And it is hard to say which one is the most important. However, weighting the money spent on investment and the long-term benefit, I believe that improving school in order to create better condition for students to study and do research is the most important factor to achieve this goal.
First, money spent on improving schools might create a huge benefit for a better life. If government could issue sufficient education fund on the construction of school facilities such as laboratory, more and more students and scholars are willing to devote themselves to the research projects and come up with creative solutions to solve the problems that people may suffer in their daily life. For example, given the money is spent on building an advance laboratory about cultivating more productive food on school, such research is very meaningful and significant because it could address the problem like starvation in a most efficient way. And such investment on research has great impact on the development of countries and is an effective way on solving many problems people are suffering.
What’s more, as we all know, the school has a great influence on the formation of people’s personality and helps them discovery the value of their life. If school could invest adequate money on the education of traditional virtues and give appropriate guide of the direction, students might get a better preparation when they enter the real society and thus better contribute to their own countries. According to the research I have studied over the recent years, the developed country like America every year spends lots of money on helping their students to get more advice about life and provide all kinds of class to help them refine their personality.
All in all, taking what I have mentioned above, I could safely draw the conclusion that improving schools is the most essential factor for the successful development of a country.
