Parents have powerful influence on children’s growth. However, some people think the influence from outside the home plays a bigger part of children’s development. To what extent do you agree or disagree?20191116
No one can deny the significance of parenting since parents are widely considered as role models, mentors, and even lighthouses for children’s growth. However, this does not imply the parental education is the most essential factor deciding children’s future. A myriad of influences from various aspects can never be ignored.
Primarily, schooling has its irreplaceable functions for the development of young children. This is simply because schools are where they learn academic knowledge, where they have plenty of opportunities to exercise their social skills with peers, and where they are able to receive systematic moral education. In all these three fields, without a shadow of a doubt, school education is superior to what parents can teach their children at home.
Additionally, influences between friends might play a huger part than parents and educators expect for children becoming who they are. On the positive side, a child’s social circle can be hugely decisive for his/her hobbies and interests. For instance, young children are more likely to play football simply because most of their friends do so. On the other hand, those influences can be negative at the same time because children can unconsciously or intentionally learn some bad behavior from their friends like smoking or being addicted to computer games.
Eventually, children contemporarily are living in a more complicated, fast-changing, andsophisticated society than ever before, which is full of a large number of known and unknown elements that may leave an irreversible impression on them, such as a misleading picture of an advertisement, a crime plot in newspaper, a walking zombie in a TV series, and violent footage in social media. Therefore, parenting is no longer the most powerful influence on children’s growth, just because all those factors mentioned above can vitally modify children’s course of life.
