In modern age, some people think it is unnecessary to teach children the skill of handwriting. To what extent do you agree or disagree? 20191123
Once some traditional skills are being phased out, some conservative people cannot helpthemselves appealing to the public to prevent the extinction of those skills, without reasonably andthoroughly weighing the justification of them. This is why those fogyish people still strongly suggest that the skill of handwriting should be given emphasis in modern education.
Chiefly, they mistakenly hold the viewpoint that handwriting epitomizes cultures, and it is noticeable that they are confused about the definitions between handwriting and calligraphy. The former is widely recognized as a practical skill, whereas the latter is known as a form of art presenting distinctive cultural identity. Furthermore, we certainly cannot push all schoolchildren to learn calligraphy especially those who do not have any interest in it at all. As a consequence, this skill should not be compulsory in schools.
On top of this, those people excessively estimate the practicability of handwriting. It used to be a basic skill in the past, but no longer in contemporary society. Modern students are having fewer and fewer opportunities to write by their hands, since some related new technologies have changed the way they study and write. Almost all teaching materials are being done in an electronic format, and the homework and assignments are required in E-copies too. To be precise, young studentsnowadays are freely using many types of electronic devices to take notes, do homework, and write essays. Relative to handwriting, typing is the skill that deserves more attention from those young generations.
In summary, as the era advances, a growing number of traditional skills are disappearing, andunquestionably this tendency is unstoppable. Young students, in modern society, do not need to learn the skill of handwriting, like they need to learn how to use a stove to cook instead of drilling wood to make fire.
