In some counties, older people are choosing to live in retirement communities with other old people rather than live with their adult children. Is it a positive or negative development? 20191207
The worldwide aging trend is triggering a growing number of social problems in many regions nowadays, and one of them is what the financially effective and spiritually acceptable method to provide for the elderly is. Under this circumstance, the public is still wavering between the traditional mode and modern one.
Primarily, some conservatives support the family-based mode, widely regarded as the traditional way, in which senior citizens live with their adult children in order to get their help and care. Notwithstanding, in this way many elderly retirees cannot enjoy their retirement life carefreely. As is universally accepted, people in old age do have different daily routine and lifestyles from the young, which implies that older and younger generations sharing one roof can readily influence each other adversely, causing some unwelcomed inconvenience and even conflicts. Furthermore, the contemporary mid-aged people are in most cases suffering from undue stress from the bills they receive every month and the working pressure placed by their higher-ups, being tied up with living a decent life and consequently having no time or energy to take care of their parents.

As a result, a brand new and community-based supporting measure for the aged population is emerging. In this model, people in their twilight years are living in a specially designed community, which is certainly able to provide them with professional medical facilities and sufficient entertaining ones. Except the hardware, they have more chances to comminute with their peers, take part in some interesting lectures, and do regular exercises. This is to say, both their physical and mental health can be greatly guaranteed. If their children can visit them once or twice a month, a community like this must be the best choice for those elderly people to enjoy a thoroughly carefree retirement life.
To conclude, the appearance of retirement communities is definitely positive for the younger generations whose pressure can be hugely relieved, the old retirees who can live there with adequate happiness and joy, and the society whose financial burden can be correspondingly reduced.
